Asthma
This condition bridges the gap between obstructive pulmonary diseases
such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema, and allergic auto-immune
conditions. It is characterized by a swelling of the bronchial tubes,
which leads to severely impaired breathing, and often panic. Death
is possible in advanced cases. The swelling can most commonly occur
as a response to allergens, food, stress, or exertion.
Treatment
Goal(s):
· Increase airflow to the lungs, tonify the lungs, dilate
bronchial passages in an emergency.
Primary Treatment:
· Long term therapy with a tincture of Lobelia (1 part) and
Avena sativa (Oats – 9 parts) has consistently proven effective.
· In an emergency, use 30 drops of tincture of Ephedra sinica
(Ephedra, Ma Huang) every 15 minutes until symptoms subside.
Supportive
Treatment:
· Lung function and resistance can be increased through the
use of Astragalus and the medicinal mushrooms.
· Immune function can be mediated through administration
of Ganoderma lucidum (Red Reishi) and fresh Urtica diotica (Nettle
leaf).
· Isolate the triggers: dietary (wheat, salt, dairy, soy,
corn amongst others), allergic (dust, pollen), exertional, or anxious.
Try to accommodate / restrict these triggers.
Differential diagnoses, cautions, and other considerations:
· Sometimes additional nervines can be helpful, if anxiety
is isolated as a precipitating factor. Piper methysticum is especially
effective.
· Asthma can be life-threatening and very scary. It might
be advisable, in moderate to severe cases, to obtain an inhaler
from a qualified medical doctor to reserve for emergency use (sometimes
the ER is too far).
