Urinary and Kidney stones

An extremely painful deposit of insoluble minerals in the kidneys and ureter / urethra. As they make their way down the urinary system, they cause excruciating pain.

Treatment Goal(s):
· Reduce stone size, encourage diuresis for elimination, manage pain.

Primary Treatment:
· Administer infusions of Eupatorium purpureum (Gravel root), Arctostaphylos uva-ursi (Uva ursi), and Taraxacum officinale (Dandelion leaf).
· Apply warm compresses to the lower back.

Supportive Treatment:
· Use tincture of Piscidia erythrina (Jamaican dogwood) or other strong analgesic herbs for pain management.
· Use demulcent herbs such as Zea mais (Corn silk) and Althaea (Marshmallow).
· Teas of Solidago canadensis (Goldenrod) along with carrot juice are good supportive treatments for recovery and the lingering cystitis that can sometimes accompany it.

Differential diagnoses, cautions, and other considerations:
· If there is pain in the kidney area, consult a qualified medical practitioner to rule out the possibility of kidney infection.
