Urinary
and Kidney stones
An extremely painful deposit of insoluble minerals in the kidneys
and ureter / urethra. As they make their way down the urinary system,
they cause excruciating pain.
Treatment
Goal(s):
· Reduce stone size, encourage diuresis for elimination,
manage pain.
Primary
Treatment:
· Administer infusions of Eupatorium purpureum (Gravel root),
Arctostaphylos uva-ursi (Uva ursi), and Taraxacum officinale (Dandelion
leaf).
· Apply warm compresses to the lower back.
Supportive Treatment:
· Use tincture of Piscidia erythrina (Jamaican dogwood) or
other strong analgesic herbs for pain management.
· Use demulcent herbs such as Zea mais (Corn silk) and Althaea
(Marshmallow).
· Teas of Solidago canadensis (Goldenrod) along with carrot
juice are good supportive treatments for recovery and the lingering
cystitis that can sometimes accompany it.
Differential
diagnoses, cautions, and other considerations:
· If there is pain in the kidney area, consult a qualified
medical practitioner to rule out the possibility of kidney infection.
